Idol Tiki Bar

Tiki Bar Interior Design

Remodel of a patisserie into a tiki bar

The design brief for this project was to transform the interior of premises on Strahinjića Bana Street into a unique tiki-style cocktail bar. The venue, situated in an old building on the ground floor, also includes a basement with toilets and a 60m² garden space along the street. With a total interior area of 105m², this space was previously a patisserie.

Tiki bars are themed cocktail lounges inspired by tiki culture, which originated in America and romanticizes tropical cultures, particularly Polynesia. The term “tiki” comes from the Maori word for the first humans, and the bar’s name, “Idol,” references the carved statues of deities used by the Maori to mark sacred spaces. The first tiki bars, which opened in New Orleans, served as a significant design influence, particularly the use of arches and greenery.

The interior is enveloped in deep, dark tones, nearly black, with varying surface textures. A multitude of ambient light sources will cast dynamic shadows on the tiki-themed decor, allowing the space to shift in ambiance throughout the day and night. Guests will enter an environment where the boundaries between floor and walls become blurred, enhancing the feeling of stepping into an “immaterial” space, focused on sensations. This space will transform according to the events, time of day, and through the careful interplay of lighting, textures, and signature tiki decorations.
