This is a competition which was announced by “Young Architects Competitions“, dedicated to the community of Rukomo in Rwanda.
Competition goal was to design a church for local believers, which would also serve as a community center. This duality is mediated by the treatment of boarders in all the dimensions, which allows the common space to dive into a space of ritual. The roof structure shelters the chapel and the community center placing the sacred and the profane under the same roof. Special treatment of the membrane allows a gentle and harmonized passage from secular time and space to the sacred and vice versa. The membrane is porous, so one can gradually enter the temple, or chose to stay on the margins.
